Marvel Fusion strengthens technological and scientific leadership with Dr. Jan Heye Buss as Chief Technology Officer and Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Siegfried Glenzer as Scientific Advisor

Munich, 30 September 2026 - Marvel Fusion, the global leader in laser-driven inertial fusion energy, today announced two senior appointments to its scientific and technological leadership. Dr. Jan Heye Buss has been appointed Chief Technology Officer (CTO), joining the executive leadership team alongside CEO Moritz von der Linden, COO Heike Freund, Chief Scientist Prof. Dr. Hartmut Ruhl and CFO Dr. Nicolas Burkardt. In addition, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Siegfried Glenzer, one of the world’s most renowned laser fusion scholars, takes on the role of Scientific Advisor to the company. Both appointments are effective immediately. The appointments reflect Marvel Fusion’s transition from scientific validation to industrial execution, as the company advances toward the commercial deployment of laser-driven fusion energy.

Buss has led Marvel Fusion’s laser program since joining in 2024. As CTO, he will own the company’s technology strategy, spanning laser system development, engineering execution and the technical roadmap across hardware, science and supply chain. A physicist with more than 15 years of experience in ultrafast laser science, industrial photonics and fusion infrastructure, he previously served as Chief Technology Officer of Class 5 Photonics and as a DFG Research Fellow and Affiliate Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, developing advanced optical and EUV capabilities for time-resolved materials research. He holds a Ph.D. from Ruhr University Bochum.

Glenzer has advised Marvel Fusion on an ad-hoc basis since 2021 and will now formally support the company’s leadership teams on laser-plasma physics, inertial confinement fusion and target science. He serves as Professor and Director of the High-Energy-Density Science Division at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory and Professor of Photon Science at Stanford University. Previously, he led the plasma physics group at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory for 12 years, where he directed the first inertial confinement fusion experiments on the National Ignition Facility (NIF). Like Marvel Fusion CTO Buss, Glenzer earned his doctorate from Ruhr University Bochum. He has authored more than 600 scientific publications, including the textbook Plasma Scattering of Electromagnetic Radiation. His distinctions include the American Nuclear Society’s Teller Medal (2025) and the U.S. Department of Energy’s E. O. Lawrence Award (2014).
